How much does it cost?

For bespoke research, I charge £30 per hour and work on an hourly basis. I provide a free consultation and, before I begin, we will agree on the scope of your family history research and how much it will cost.

Bespoke research

Typically £240 would provide a basic initial report into a Victorian family, detailing one or two generations of one line and giving additional information about their lives. However, every family is different and factors such as how often the family moved, whether they kept to the same profession and how common their name was in their area will affect how long the research will take.

Free consultation

I can advise about your specific family as part of the free consultation and give an estimate for what you might expect to receive for your money. There’s no obligation to buy.

Other expenses

I charge £10 travel costs to visit local record offices, plus my hourly rate for time spent in research. My local Archives are in Cambridgeshire, Essex, Suffolk and Huntingdonshire. All certificates and photocopies are charged at cost price.

I will also visit more distant Archives, such as the London Metropolitan Archives, the Society of Genealogists and the National Archives (all in London), Bedfordshire Archives and Hertfordshire Archives. The cost of this will be agreed with you before a visit.
